Blah

Finished Stone of Tears last Monday. Terry Goodkind is still not an easy read for me. At least the endings have always been interesting. I need another book. Doesn't have to be Goodkind. Blah blah blah.

M&M Day 2 was okay. Baby Girls lost both games. More games next week. Blah blah blah.

I want a pick-me-upper. Salted plain popcorn from Chimera or sour gummy from Candy Corner.

Weekend?

I'm on book two of the Sword of Truth series. I've only read a couple of chapters so far and I do want to keep reading. When my choices are work, read, or sleep, SLEEP always wins hands down. Ho-well.

Malakas-Maganda 2009, a.k.a. the Bonnie and Clyde Tourney, kicked off yesterday. The Warriors Men won two games and lost one by universal point to Circus. Daym, we keep losing to them by universal! Weng Weng Warriors Club, a.k.a. Baby Girls, were pulverized by the Devil Dogs in their first game. Well, what could we do against a whole team of hanimals! Those girls are something else. But the Baby Girls came out victorious over Chicks with Discs in the second game. SP forfeited due to lack of players. Lucky us coz they would've killed us too, I think. So we're at 2-1 for the first week. Not bad considering it was our first time to play as a team. I think now at least we've seen each other's game and we can adjust accordingly to improve our teamwork. :)

My carpet head's been down with flu, the regular kind, the past few days. He missed our games yesterday. Hate it that I can't really do anything much. I hate chu, flu, I hate chu. :(

Man, I Feel Boring.

Books Books

I finally finished reading Wizard's First Rule yesterday. It took me a while to finish because of the story's pace, but at least the ending was interesting. It's the first book in a series so I guess the author had to lay out a bit of groundwork for the next books. Critics compare the series to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (LOTR) and both are similar in the sense that they are about magic and power and fantasy worlds. But I think that's where the similarity ends. A major difference is that the Sword of Truth series has more empowered female characters in it. In LOTR, the powerful female characters like Arwen and Galadriel weren't given as much significance as the male characters. In Goodkind's book, one of the main characters is a woman. Another difference is that the Sword of Truth is more graphic. Goodkind is more explicit in describing emotions, death, and atrocities. There's even a bit of sex in it. In Tolkien, romantic relationships between characters were only implied. Anyway, I'm waiting for the second book. Yay.

While I'm waiting for book two, I'm reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. It's about the world's only female werewolf and her struggle between living with her pack and living an independent life in the city. In the book, the werewolf trait is hereditary, passed on from father to son, and only a very rare few can actually survive a werewolf bite to become werewolves themselves. That is why the main character Elena is unique. She's the only woman in her pack. It's okay so far. Definitely easier to read than Wizard's First Rule.

There's another book that has intrigued me. Willow, a novel by Julia Hoban for young adults. Saw it advertised on Lolcats and it was really the cover that first got me interested. It's about a teenaged girl and how she dealt with the death of her parents. The book description reads: "Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen year old Willow's parents died in a horrible car accident. Willow was driving. Now her older brother barely speaks to her, her new classmates know her as the killer orphan girl, and Willow is blocking the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when one boy — one sensitive, soulful boy — discovers Willow's secret, it sparks an intense relationship that turns the "safe" world Willow has created for herself upside down." It talks about some pretty serious things and usually I steer clear of emo stuff, but there are a lot of good reviews about it. It isn't listed in any of our major bookstores' websites though. But why?

Music Discovery

My work laptop is devoid of any music file. In fear of being caught redhanded with prohibited files in my company-issued equipment, I purged all my mp3s when I brought my laptop to our IT for check-up. So now I work on a completely mp3-free laptop and it can be a bit annoying when I'm working intensely on something major and want to drown out the noise around me, but have no music on hand to help me focus.

Earlier this afternoon I was in dire need of some musical inspiration, and in desperation googled streaming music sites. One of the hits, mashable.com, a pretty interesting site in itself, featured a list of the best streaming music sites. That was where I found Musicovery, a streaming radio service that generates playlists based on your mood. You choose your mood and the genre and the playlist comes out in a sort of roadmap. You have the option to save the track as a favorite or purchase the tracks through Amazon or iTunes. I think the best thing about musicovery is that it has all kinds of music and artists to suit your mood. I'm really loving this site right now because it's given me a lot of Michael Buble for the last hour. Perfect for right now.

Read more reviews on musicovery here and here.

Where Did The Damn Weekend Go?

Summer League 2009. Finals happened on a deliciously rainy Saturday. Everyone was excited to play wet for once instead of sunburned. The Warriors won the first game against BC but lost to K3 in the semi-finals. Then we won by universal point against our practice buddies Circus Weng Weng to bag 3rd place. Beloved Co-Captain also bagged the MVP title for our division. Hell, yeah.

The Warriors in the top 3...
Baby's MVP...
Malakas-Maganda coming up in three weeks...
ALL IS GOOD iN THE DISC WORLD. :)

Oh, I need new cleats.

Women's World 10Ball Championship 2009. Multiple Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Rubilen Amit won in the finals of the first Women's World 10-Ball Championship, which was held in SM North Edsa last Saturday. Okay, sorry, I don't know much about our Filipina billiards players, but I think this is GREAT. I think the Filipinas were showing some skill in the tournament. In her opening match, 11-year old Gillian Go surprised everyone when she beat one of the Australian veterans. Two other Filipinas, Mary Ann Basas and Mica Claveria, also won their opening matches. Gillian, Mary Ann, and Mica didn't get far after that, but Rubilen, who lost her opening match, beat Julie Kelly of Ireland and Hsiang Ling Tan of Chinese-Taipei in the knockout phase. She then beat The Black Widow Jeanette Lee (holy crap!) in the quarterfinals, eight-time Japanese women's "Player of the Year" Akimi Kajitani in the semifinals, and ultimately Taiwanese Shin Mei-Liu in the finals to win the championship and the $20,000 prize money. Not bad.

Reminds me, I have to get a new case for my sticks. Tsk.

Free Coldplay Album

You can download Coldplay's new live album LeftRightLeftRightLeft from their website.

Apparently Coldplay's giving away their live album for free as a gift to their fans. So if you're a Coldplay fan or just an average music junkie like me, there's no reason for you not to grab your gift! Go forth and download!

Boo I'm at work and can't download crap because IT will see me downloading 54MB of non work-related data off the net and that's not good. Hah. :P

Everyday is a winding road

Big ass project ends this month. I am dying to wrap this up already. Work's starting to burn me out and making me seriously unproductive. I feel like a zombie every day at work. Get far far away I must when we close. I need to clear my head, relax my bones, chill with Carpet Head...

Oh, I have a new book to read. Carpet Head lent me book one of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I love fantasy books so I'm pretty sure I'm going to like this one. The only thing I hate about reading a series is that it's addictive and I will most probably pine away for the other books after I devour one. Fortunately for me I already know where to source the next three. Hah. I lurve.

Speaking of books, I stopped trying to read Watchmen. Couldn't quite get past the first chapter without dozing off. Last week, I tried re-reading Angels and Demons, but I couldn't spare the time. Now I'm wondering how the hell I'm going to get through Terry Goodkind. Gah.

Hmm I haven't been writing in here for a while. I realized I feel just a tad bit self conscious now about the stuff I ramble about in here. Hmm..

The Prayer by Charlotte Church and Josh Groban is the only track on my playlist right now and I've been listening to it all day since yesterday. Maybe I'm feeling the need for some heavenly guidance.

It's stress, I think.
